The project involved dividing the current space into four unique stages to maintain a live environment throughout the programme duration. Works included new wall and floor finishes, construction of new rooms such as a unisex bathroom, washroom, prayer room and multiple new glass partitioned meeting rooms.

Prime Build successfully created a modernised working environment to accommodate over 150 Officeworks team members.

Key references to a terrace, courtyard, laneway theme for the breakout area also allows for open plan meeting spaces and hot desking. Wall art and landscaping features lends to a softening and balance of the clean line design elements and modern meeting room area.

As the principle contractor of this project, we managed the works and coordinated with Coles direct trades to facilitate the works of the 2,500m2 store and ensure that it was run parallel with a full refrigeration upgrade.

The works were made more challenging with limitations as a result of COVID-19, with Prime Build managing the project administration remotely in Victoria and with a dedicated construction team working onsite in Tasmania.

Prime Build successfully engaged and built relationships with the local trades allowing us to deliver the project on time.

This exciting project was highly architectural with unique glazing panels and a “honeycomb” structure, testing the capabilities of what could be achievable in such a short time frame.

The façade was constructed within a live tertiary environment with many stakeholders occupying the surrounding offices and businesses.The new façade also included high quality timber joinery wrapped around the inside of the glazing to accommodate for the cafés peak periods.

The project was delivered in full collaboration with RMIT’s direct contractors and suppliers.

This highly specialised fitout was delivered within a tight programme to be ready for the first semester of classes. We worked within a live tertiary environment and coordinated our contracted trades with the client’s direct specialist trades to ensure the new space was built to the highest professional standards.

A number of challenges were overcome in the delivery of this project, an example of which being the development and design of new structural steel posts to support the sagging timber endo skeleton, closely detailed and worked through from sketched plans all the way through to physical completion.

The acoustic performance elements of the project, such as textile panels, perforated boards and timber battens were designed in close collaboration with Macquarie University’s Head of Music and Recording. This project will now provide a specialised facility for sound recording, mixing, audio production for university students to utilise.

Following full demolition of the existing structure, the Prime Build team set to work on the dramatically designed Protagonist Cafe project.
A highly technical structure completely floated over the heritage listed pavers. The building employed a steel and concrete ballast system to counter act wind loads whilst ensuring structural integrity.

From the dynamic Kaynemaile mesh curtain that surrounds the perimeter to the dramatic architectural lines of the stainless steel, every aspect was carefully considered and executed. We are proud to have delivered this powerful project in conjunction with the Arts Centre and Cumulus Studios.
